The Fly Out team got the opportunity to float 8 days with guide ambassador Mark Rutherford's Wild River Guides down River X in SW Alaska - Bristol Bay area. The theme of the trip was variety; variety of weather, fish species, and landscapes. Welcome to Alaska right! We got the authentic Bristol Bay snot and we got the elusive blue bird skies. We floated through the dolly varden factories, silver mines, and root ball rainbow country. Along the way, we rediscoverd the magic of Alaska's wilderness - truly wild country. This was a special adventure, and I take off my hat to Mark and crew for a wonderful trip. Get more info on Wild River Guides here.

A special cut from Fly Out's first film, "Magnetic North" will be featured in the Fly Fishing Film Festival this spring - touring the western United States and Internationally. This is a fantastic event that showcases fly fishing films that inspire! The tour schedule is available, and you can purchase tickets now!
Magnetic North tells the story of the draw of Alaska, told through the voices of guides and anglers who live and work there. For anyone who has spent time in the Last Frontier, you know that there is an intangible connection to the land, wildlife, water, and culture. Magnetic North focuses beyond the incredible fishing by presenting the human attraction and intrinsic connection to this truly wild place.
The 5-part web series showcases the variety of landscape, fisheries, and adventure in Alaska. Four distinct locations are featured including a float trip in remote Southwest Alaska, a fly out adventure in Bristol Bay, a trip down the Upper Kenai River, and an incredible heli-fish experience in the Tordrillo Mountains. These world-class adventures together embody the spirit of the Alaska experience.
Magnetic North gives a taste of the dream of Alaska and its alluring pull.
John D. Parker Photography captures some amazing footage of Alaska's workhorse - The De Havilland Beaver. This footage was taken with the popular gyro-stabilized cineflex camera - often used from a helicopter (think ski movies).
