Onboard the Sea Wolf you will always find an option to suit your mood – relaxing on the heated aft deck enjoying a panoramic view, learning about the nature of the Pacific Northwest from their naturalist, or participating in long or short paddles and hikes.

While cruising scan the beaches and seas for wildlife and marine mammals. Bears, wolves, mountain goats and other wildlife abound in this rich land and the nutrient rich waters support a myriad of marine species including porpoises, sea otters, seals, Orca and Humpback whales.

For those that take paddle in hand, the use of their very stable sea kayaks allows for a more up close and personal seals eye view of the coastal wilderness. Enjoy silently being among the incredible marine life, active glaciers, and temperate rainforests.

You can hike most days and encounter a variety of terrain. Explore rocky slopes abutting glaciers, sandy beaches, or the mossy floor of the rainforest. The hikes vary from easy to challenging as you wander the landscape absorbing the natural history of each magical place. Each hiking exploration will have two guides to accommodate differing activity levels.

Lodge & Dining Details

The Sea Wolf is a 97′ ocean-going ship that carries 12 passengers plus 5-6 crew in great comfort. She is an amazing expedition platform for cruising, wildlife spotting, whale watching and as a kayaking mothership. The Sea Wolf has many guest areas including a main viewing salon, covered aft viewing/dining deck and a wonderful wide bow. The aft deck is enclosed in eisen glass and heated. There is a large outdoor viewing deck behind the wheelhouse. The side decks are also covered for your sightseeing comfort. The staterooms each have their own bathrooms including shower and sink. There is an extensive naturalist library for guests to enjoy. The ship carries 6 double kayaks for guests and 2 guide kayaks. There is also a 18′ Rigid inflatable for shore excursions. The Sea Wolf is an incredibly stable vessel and the waters are typically glassy calm which makes for a wonderful cruising adventure.

Sea Wolf Adventures believes in supporting local business, growers and fisherman. The salmon, halibut, spot prawns, scallops and dungeness crab they serve are all harvested in SE Alaska by local fisherman. There is nothing better than fresh wild Alaska salmon or halibut right off the hook, or dungeness crab straight from the crab pot to the steamer to your plate! They try to use mostly fresh and organic produce and most of the baked goods are prepared on board. Their chef can work with most any special diets: vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, lo-fat or youth friendly. Just let them know well ahead of time and they can accommodate your dietarty needs.

Sample Itinerary

6-Day / 5-Night Trip of Glacier Bay
  • Day 1

Arrange to arrive at Bartlett Cove Dock in Glacier Bay National Park for embarkation at 8:30am. Go through introductions and an orientation. Cruise up the bay to Geike Inlet for the first paddle. Geike is a beautiful fjord that may offer a glimpse of black bears, wolverines, mountain goats plus a large variety of seabirds and ducks. Once back aboard, enjoy a vista and wildlife filled cruise to that nights point of anchorage.

  • Day 2

Breakfast at 8:00 am and then off for a hike to Reid Glacier for an up-close view of the glacially carved landscape. An easy hike up the mountain, down the beach and fording a few glacial streams will bring you to the face of Reid Glacier. After lunch enjoy a magical paddle along a sheer cliff rookery of kittiwake and puffins, and then venture out in front of Marjorie Glacier/Johns Hopkins for a breathtaking experience as you watch an active calving glacier, from a safe distance.

  • Day 3

After an 8 AM breakfast you will be off to Gloomy Knob looking for mountain goats and other wildlife. If conditions permit, you will have a morning botany hike up Gloomy Knob for incredible views of the bay. Then off to an afternoon paddle at one of the anchorages that bring you close to the East Arm entrance of Glacier Bay.

  • Day 4

Breakfast at 8:00 am as the engines are started in order to make your way up Muir Inlet, the
East Arm of Glacier Bay. The activities here depend on wilderness water opening/closing dates. You will go on a memorable hike accompanied by a paddle. These shorelines contain a great variety of shore birds, vistas and hold the possibilities of seeing bears, wolves and moose. Head back to the boat to cruise for that evenings anchorage point.

  • Day 5

Breakfast at 8 am. If the tides are right you will enjoy a morning paddle at North Sandy Cove
and if not, head down the bay to another pristine paddle area. This area is a very rich ecosystem that supports black bears, moose, coyotes, and a plentiful marine environment. Kayak around the shores scanning for black bears and moose then paddle over to Puffin Island for a truly wondrous look at a low tide vertical inter tidal zone. Back on board the Sea Wolf, you will cruise to South Marble Island to view a large stellar sea lion haul out and a seabird-nesting rookery from the comfort of the Sea Wolf. Then cruise onward to Fingers Bay.

  • Day 6

Breakfast at 8:00 am then head off to Point Adolphus to look for spectacular and acrobatic humpback whales. The day is spent watching these magnificent creatures. Around 12:00 you will head back to Gustavus for a 1 pm docking. You will then have a walking tour of the Huna Tribal House and exhibits. A pre-arranged taxi will then transport you to the airport for the 4pm or later departing flight you have arranged, unless you have made plans to spend more time in Gustavus.
