Rainbow River Lodge is located on private land in the heart of Alaska's phenomenal Bristol Bay and Lake Iliamna watershed, conveniently adjacent to the Katmai Wilderness. At Rainbow River Lodge, each and every angler receives personal attention and a customizable itinerary. There are 6 seasoned and professional guides for a maximum of 12 guests, and they all have multiple seasons of guiding experience in the area. Each guide possesses valuable local knowledge of the fisheries, guaranteeing you a great day on the river. Rainbow River Lodge enjoys a world-class home water river in addition to the incredible flexibliity to fly out each day to the phenomenal fisheries throughout the Bristol Bay region. As a guest you will have the opportunity to have a variety of fishing experiences. The rivers in the region have five Pacific salmon species in addition to trophy rainbow trout and Arctic char. Each day offers a new adventure. Weather, fishing conditions and your specific interests determine what the fishing program is each day. 

Lodge & Dining Details

Rainbow River Lodge is nestled among pines overlooking a small picturesque lake from which float planes land and take off. They allow you to discover the wilds of Alaska by day while experiencing all of the comforts of home at night. Each guest cabin has an Indian slate entry, Maple hardwood floors, state bathroom with slate vanity, corner glass shower, hand-made Aspen log furniture, custom built wall sconces & chandelier and pillow-top mattresses with down comforters. Thermostatically-controlled heat ensures your total comfort. Each cabin is equipped also with a VCR and DVD player and a 19" monitor. These cabins and accommodations allow you to get a good night's rest for the exciting day ahead tomorrow.

Each night gourmet dinners are served in the main lodge akin to what you might find in finer restaurants. The bell for breakfast rings early for anglers anxious to get out and fly fish. For lunch, the guides will fillet up a fresh caught salmon from the morning and grill it to perfection for a wonderful shore lunch. At the end of the day, dining and relaxing in the lodge provides the perfect setting for many pleasant moments of conversations and memories.

Sample Itinerary

6-Days of Fishing / 6-Nights Accommodations
  • Saturday
    Arrive to Iliamna, Alaska via an arranged charter flight with Lake Clark Air. The Rainbow River Lodge staff will meet you at the terminal and transport you via their floatplanes to the lodge. Get settled in, enjoy appetizers and get prepared for a great week of fishing. 
  • Sunday-Thursday
    Get ready to enjoy five full days of guided fishing. You may fish locally on Alaska's famed Copper River for Alaska-sized rainbow trout or salmon. On other days you may fly out to nearby rivers and streams for a variety of fishing experiences. Float a small river in Katmai National Park or jet boat a larger river for trophy rainbow trout. Or, fly out to the Katmai coast for a one-of-kind salmon fishing day. Everyday is different and customizable with Rainbow River Lodge. Each day, you'll return to the lodge for appetizers and dinner. Enjoy lodge amenities, relax, and get ready for the next day of great fishing.
  • Friday
    Your last fishing day is the same day you depart back to Anchorage. You will enjoy a full day of fishing etiher locally on the Copper River or on a fly out. After your fishing day, pack your bags and prepare to depart the lodge at 6:15 p.m. You will catch your return flight from Iliamna and be back in Anchorage by 8:20 p.m. (weather pending).

Travel Details

How to get there

Rainbow River Lodge guests will fly from Anchorage to Iliamna on a private charter operated by Lake Clark Air. Rainbow River Lodge will schedule your flight from Anchorage to Iliamna for you. The cost of this flight is $380 and is payable to Lake Clark Air directly upon check-in.

Your flight will depart Anchorage at 4:00 pm on Saturday arriving into the village of Iliamna at 5:20 pm. Owner Chad Hewitt will meet you in Iliamna as you step off the plane. The lodge will transfer you over to their floatplanes for a short 15 minute flight to Rainbow River Lodge. After a week of great fly fishing you will depart the lodge on Friday at 6:15 pm for a 7:00 pm departure out of Iliamna. You will arrive back into Anchorage at 8:20 pm. You may want to take a flight out that night or overnight in Anchorage and fly home Saturday morning. When scheduling your flights from your home city and Anchorage, make certain to give yourself 2 hours time to make the charter flight to Iliamna.
