Fishing & Guided Activities
Saltwater Fishing
The Southeast Alaska fishing trips at Dove Island Lodge depart daily on board fully outfitted charter fishing vessels. The lodge guides will take you to the fishing hotspots and return each evening to the comfort and luxury of Dove Island Lodge. The charter boats range from 28-foot SeaSports to a 40-foot motor-yacht. Only four anglers fish from the SeaSports to ensure the ultimate in fast action on your Alaska fishing charter. The 40-foot yacht is used for special overnight excursions or daily eco-tours. Dove Island Lodge also uses a 34-1/2-foot Coldwater vessel with an 11-foot beam, boasting a full walk-around platform. This boat easily cruises at 30-knots and can comfortably accommodate up to six anglers while still providing 15-feet of space between each fisherman. It also offers spacious cabin seating and a full stand-up private head.
Freshwater Fishing
The freshwater fishing program centers on the lodge's DeHaviland Beaver floatplane. This aircraft was built in Canada and designed to do one thing; fly heavy loads off of short airstrips or short-water takeoffs. This aircraft gives Dove Island Lodge the flexibility to carry up to seven people to remote lakes, streams, and bays sometimes not accessible by boat. Having a float plane available for freshwater fly outs is unique for an ocean-based lodge in Alaska. Fly fishing the freshwater rivers in Alaska defines the purity of the sport, and often times your only company on the trip will be bears, bald eagles, and other wildlife.
Lodge Details
Dove Island Lodge is a 10,000 square-foot resort, located on a private island, includes five two-room suites complete with private bathrooms, hot tubs, satellite television, refrigerators, coffee makers, and personal ocean front balconies.
Guests can choose from twin or king-size beds with Serta mattresses, and some rooms even come complete with fireplaces. It is personal touches like these that make Dove Island Lodge a premier luxury fishing lodge in Alaska, and will make your stay peaceful, comfortable, and unforgettable.
Food & Beverage
Dove Island Lodge employs two professionally trained chefs who create gourmet cuisine using only the freshest and finest of Alaska’s native delicacies. The lodge's state-of-the-art commercial kitchen allows the chefs the space and freedom to explore their culinary skills, and provides guests with an unparalleled fine dining experience.
Before heading out from the lodge for a day, breakfasts are cooked hearty and made-to-order. Omelets, fresh fruit, cereal, pancakes, eggs, bacon, and fresh coffee get the day started right. The lodge has a unique lunch buffet that includes a wide variety of various breads, meats, and cheeses, hot handcrafted soups, as well as an array of fresh fruit and chips. The lodge is famous for our fresh-baked cookies, certain to delight the palette. The best surprise at Dove Island Lodge appears at dinnertime when the Crown Jewel of this luxury resort is served; five-course gourmet meals with an Alaskan twist. Their menus typically include fare straight from the local waters such as fresh salmon, spotted prawns, hand-made sushi, Dungeness and Alaskan king crab.
These northern staples are the pinnacle of Alaska fine dining, but the menu is not limited to the ocean’s bounty. Dove Island Lodge is also known for its fine prime rib, hearty steaks, tender lamb, and succulent venison.
Travel Details
You will need to arrive into Sitka on the same day as your first night stay at the lodge. Upon your arrival to Sitka you will be picked up at the airport or hotel and driven to the harbor where you will be boarding a boat to Dove Island for a meet and greet and orientation. If there are any items you forgot to bring on your trip a staff member will be happy to pick it up for you in town if we do not have it at the lodge. Your room will be available for check in at 3pm on arrival and you will need to check out of your room at 11am on your departure day.
