Fishing & Guided Activities
Fishing - Chelatna Lake offers a gateway to some of the finest rainbow trout and grayling fishing in the state. They specialize in both fly-fishing and spin-fishing with professional, experienced fishing guides who can accommodate novice to experienced anglers. They are vigilant in sharing their local knowledge to help you locate and catch fish. The waters they fish are not only pristine and clear, they are remote and only accessible by aircraft. This means that the only competition for the river will be with the wildlife!
Hiking - One of the most popular activities at Chelatna Lake Lodge is a private day hike into Denali National Park. Their guides take you up into the park via an ascending trail that first leads you through alpine meadows exploding with wildflowers, then along meandering streambeds with cascading waterfalls, and as you head uphill, you hike along the towering rock faces that herald the beginning of the majestic Alaska Range. All along your way, you encounter breathtaking panoramas of the lake and surrounding glacially formed valley. The best part is you will have the place to yourself, as if you were the first to ever explore this territory. Other exciting hikes are available and take you along salmon-spawning streams, through arctic tundra, and across boreal forest that allows you to experience the heart of the Alaskan Bush for yourself.
Wildlife Viewing & Photography - Chelatna Lake has fourteen and a half miles of shoreline to explore, and the best way to do this is by boat. Wildlife abound as you take a leisurely cruise in the comfort of your privately guided boat. It is not uncommon to see either black bear or grizzly, moose, beaver, river otters, coyotes, porcupines, arctic terns, eagles, osprey, loons, swans and, if you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of an elusive wolf or wolverine. Of course, photography opportunities are available on any of the guided Chelatna Lake Lodge activities.
Sauna and Swim - Relax in their cedar wood fueled sauna that sits just on the edge of the lake. Get warm in the sauna and if you feel up to it afterwards, go cool off in the lake. Be ready for a little bit of a shock though, the glacial fed lake is cold.
Hot Shore Lunch - Boat or hike to the perfect setting for a fire and a hot lunch. Sit back and relax as your guide starts a fire and prepares you a nice meal to enjoy as you take in the scenery.
