BEYOND - Bush Flying, Key to the Wrangells

on Friday, 24 January 2014. Posted in Alaska Fly Fishing & Adventure Films, Video

From Ultima Thule Lodge

The foundation and namesake of our company "Fly Out" is based in the beauty and freedom of flying wild Alaska. The opportunities for genuine adventure exist in Alaska because of the remoteness, the truly unspoiled wild country that is increasingly rare on this Earth. Ultima Thule Lodge truly represents the spirit of our brand. We would like to join them in presenting the 2nd installment of their web series, Beyond - Key to the Wrangells. The planes at UTL truly are time machines, as you travel back to a world unfathomable by our modern culture. Sit back, push play, and enjoy the ride.

Fly Fishing Poetry

on Thursday, 02 January 2014. Posted in Alaska Fly Fishing & Adventure Films, Video

From Ataman Movies

This is a good exercise in reflection and self examination. I think all anglers should write or at least contemplate their own personal fly fishing poetry, as it allows us to put the sport in perspective. A very nice example here.

From the filmmaker:

A fragment of Mel Krieger's "Patagonia - 40 years fly fishing in ARGENTINA - this is for us the most emotional and beautiful few thoughts about fly fishing describing the very essence of being a fly fisherman...
Rest in peace Mel...

Best Alaska Salmon Footage Ever!

Salmon Research at Iliamna Lake

From the Filmaker:

This video showcases Iliamna Lake and briefly shows some of the 2013 research of the Alaska Salmon Program's Iliamna Lake research station, one of four main facilities in Southwest Alaska . The program was established by the University of Washington in the 1940's and the majority of it's research is focused on ecology and fisheries management relating primarily to salmon and the environment in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Check out our program at: fish.washington.edu/research/alaska/

I am very grateful to be a part of such a long standing, and prominent program that allows me to work in the field in such an incredible setting with fantastic folks. This video was often shot between, or during field sampling events so thanks to all those who supported me by continuing to work while I fiddled with camera gear.

Filmed and edited by Jason Ching

The Surprise Salmon

on Tuesday, 19 November 2013. Posted in Alaska Fly Fishing & Adventure Films, Video

From PBS Series - Life on Fire

From Original Source:

In Alaska, the fresh water that feeds the rivers is snowmelt from North America's highest mountains and most active volcanoes. Time and again, they erupt and poison the rivers. Scientists have only just begun to piece together what might have happened nearly 2,000 years ago, when one race of salmon faced the death of their natal river and were forced back to the open ocean.

Alaska's Angling Addiction - Our Story

on Friday, 08 November 2013. Posted in Alaska Fly Fishing & Adventure Films, Video

By Lee Kuepper

We had the pleaser to spend a few evenings with Paul and Lee from Alaska's Angling Addiction, shooting some video for our newest film. These guys are first class, and they are extremely good at what they do. The two of them have great energy, and you can feel that when you're on the water with them. They have the right mindset about stewardship toward the Kenai fishery, and their values toward conservation are admirable. Both Paul and Lee are too humble to come out and say it, but when it comes to giant Kenai River Rainbows - they're the best. This is their story.

Alaska - The Nutrient Cycle

on Sunday, 06 October 2013. Posted in Alaska Fly Fishing & Adventure Films, Video

From Paul Claver

A fantastic look at the life cycle and nutrient cycle of Alaska's wild salmon. These fish give us so much, it is our responsible to protect the best we have left.

From the Filmaker:

Once they enter fresh water chum salmon stop feeding and morph into an aggressive creature intent only on mating. After spawning, they die and their bodies become a source of nutrients for everything in the forest and sea.

Very special thanks to Lynn Schooler, who without I could not have made this short. Special thanks to Richard Nelson, Hank Lentfer, Riley Woodford and Henk Meeuwsen for providing additional sounds.
To Lynn & Michio, whose stories and adventures inspired me to come to Alaska.

UPDATE - Shot over the course of three weeks with a Canon 5d and a GoPro. Music: Smetana - Má Vlast (The Moldau) and Górecki - Symphony No. 3: Il Lento E Largo

The American Sportsman in Alaska

on Friday, 13 September 2013. Posted in Alaska Fly Fishing & Adventure Films, Video

With Alaska Sportsman's Lodge

A made for TV episode filmed at Alaska Sportsman's Lodge on the Kvichak. It's not my favorite music selection, but there is some worthy footage from a world class lodge in Bristol Bay.

Fly-out Alaska flyfishing for big Rainbows and Salmon at it's best Hepler photography, Scott Hepler, filmed and edited flyfishing in Alaska for The American Outdoorsman TV. Lots of Bears and fishing at Alaska's premier fly out lodge, Alaska's Sportsman Lodge in the Katmai National Park on the Kenai peninsula.
